Through LFA, I expanded the way I think about sustainability beyond my professional work in design and into questions of community, culture change, and how we can make sustainable practices more accessible in our communities. One of the biggest things I took away from LFA was a renewed sense of possibility, along with a supportive community of people who were also thinking creatively about climate solutions. It also helped me discover a deeper interest in repair, reuse, and community-building. That experience planted the seeds for The Repair Movement (TRM), a community initiative centered on bringing repair and reuse culture back into the forefront of everyday life. The longer-term vision is to help make repair more accessible while supporting the revival of local repair skills, businesses, and community repair infrastructure. For me, LFA was about more than learning new approaches to climate solutions. It gave me new knowledge and the space to explore a new area of passion within the broader climate movement—and a renewed sense of what’s possible when we think creatively about how we build more sustainable communities.
